Apple iPhone 7 might sport wireless EarPods with power efficient Bluetooth chip

A brand new wireless headset is reportedly in the works at Apple’s lab. The company is working with a custom made Bluetooth chip which is way more power efficient than the conventional Bluetooth modules. With this year’s iPhone launch event knocking at the door, the speculated Bluetooth headphones may be announced alongside.

By now, we are quite sure that Apple will drop the 3.5 mm headphone port from this year’s iPhone. Even though it is being presumed that the lightning port will be used for audio output, the universality of the Bluetooth headphones will make them a better choice. There is also a faint speculation that Apple may bundle the upcoming Bluetooth headset with the forthcoming iPhones.

A Forbes report suggests that Apple is working with a new piece of tech to significantly boost up the power efficiency of Bluetooth headsets. This will solve the really annoying issue of low battery life of Bluetooth headphones. The Cupertino giant will make use of the works by Passif Semiconductor in this field. The latter is a start-up, which Apple acquired a couple of years ago.

In 2015, Apple targeted to launch a Bluetooth gadget which it developed using the same technology. However, due to some minor issue, the release was scrapped. It is not surprising as the iPhone maker is known to discard things if they are not 100 per cent perfect. So, you should take all these information fingers crossed.

It is highly possible for Apple to use third party Bluetooth chips like that of Broadcom for its Bluetooth headset and it may even be possible that Apple totally cancels the plan to launch any Bluetooth headphone. Till now, the Cupertino-based company has been using third-party made chips for its products like iPhones or iPads. Qualcomm is known as the supplier of cellular modems, and Broadcom provides the WiFi and Bluetooth modules.

Apple usually designs a hardware but gives the contract to a third party manufacturer to manufacture the product. The company has a dedicated team of designers who prepares the blueprints of some of the world’s best mobile SoCs. Apple usually gives the contract to large scale manufacturers like TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) or Samsung to produce the product.

If the Bluetooth chip is speculated to be manufactured by Apple itself, this will highlight the company’s target to manufacture components on its own and become independent while making more profit.
