Shift launches Shift5+ Windows 10 Mobile/Android 5.1 Lollipop modular smartphone: Price, Specs and Availability details

The Germany-based phone maker, Shift, has just launched its Shift5+ smartphone, the first modular Windows 10 Mobile handset in the market. There is an Android 5.1 Lollipop instalment available as well.

The Shift5+ smartphone features interesting design aesthetics and a spec sheet definitely to looks for, so, without any further ado, let’s take a closer look at the handset.

Specs and software

To kick things off, it is worth noting that the company has not decided about the device’s specs yet, though it is quite confident for some of them.

The Shift5+ is expected to sport a 5-inch IPS LCD display, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon CPU series (quad-core or octa-core CPU, hence the 810 is where we bet our money on) along with Adreno GPU, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Camera wise, the primary sensor will shoot at 13MP while the secondary one at 5MP.

Shift is also presumably planning to include a 2,500 to 3,000 mAh battery, which, if the aforementioned specs turn out to be the ones that we see in the final product, sounds fair enough.

As far as the modular parts of the handset go, the company stated that besides the battery, the display, internal memory and “other component parts” are configurable as well, something that will certainly come in handy in the unfortunate event when a part breaks.

The Shift5+ will come with Windows 10 Mobile or Android 5.1 Lollipop straight out of the box. There is no official word regarding its eligibility to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

Pricing and availability

The German phone maker has listed the Shift5+ available for pre-order starting in December, where the final specifications will be unveiled as well, setting users back 399 euros.

When the device ships during the third quarter of 2016, the retail price of the modular smartphone will be bumped to 444 euros.
