Samsung ELECT LTD, (NASDAQ: SSNLF)- A report published by tech blog SamMobile suggests that the Galaxy S7 smartphone will be featuring a Type-C port instead of a microUSB one.

Renowned Samsung related news blog, SamMobile, relying on sources close to the event, disclosed that the South Korean-based tech giant will be replacing the good old microUSB port with one of the latest trends in the mobile industry, which is Type-C ports.

In case you are not familiar, Type-C ports, formally referred to as USB 3.1, are a new type of port-technology featuring faster data transfers than USB 3.0, as well as less charging time. When it comes to the latter, Samsung has managed to already implement similar faster-charging tech with previous generations, though speedier file transfer will prove really handy.

In addition to the aforementioned, unlike microUSB, Type-C ports are reversible, meaning that the user can plug the cord both ways. Apple has been using reversible ports for four generations now- since the release of the iPhone 5 to be precise.

The latest devices to pack Type-C are Google’s very own LG Nexus smartphone and Huawei Nexus phablet, while we expect respective forthcoming flagships from LG, HTC and Sony to have it as well.

A few months back, the latest player to enter the smartphone arena, OnePlus, confirmed that its OnePlus 2 handset will be rocking Type-C tech, weeks prior to its official announcement, that way highlighting the significance of the feature. Hence, in order to confront equivalent rivals, Samsung will certainly have to include the Type-C port in the pipeline.
