OnePlus X Android 5.1.1 Lollipop: Price, Specs and Availability details

LONDON, UK- OnePlus The Chinese phone maker has taken the stage today to present its latest smartphone, the OnePlus X, so here is every piece of info you need to know regarding the handset’s price, specs and availability.

After months of speculation and leaks, OnePlus has finally revealed its first mid-range handset, the OnePlus X. This is the second smartphone that the company unveils during 2015, as it launched its flagship OnePlus 2 in July as well. In a nutshell, the OnePlus 2 is the successor of the original OnePlus One.

A lot of fuss has been developed around the much-anticipated OnePlus X smartphone over the last few weeks, as it features some brilliant design cues and an interesting spec sheet, so let’s have a close look at OnePlus’ latest innovation.

The OnePlus X offers two design variants; the Onyx and the Ceramic.

The former features glass front and back that shares a striking resemblance with Apple’s 2010 iPhone 4, while a metal layer is crafted around the edges too- which are curved by the way. Major media outlets that were present to the launch event pointed out that the particular version feels fragile and a bit slippery in the hands.

When it comes to the more premium OnePlus X edition, the Ceramic one, there is not any noticeable change besides the ceramic back and the angled edges. Other than that, the specific installment has a metal layer wrapped around the edges as well. Due to the material that it is crafted from, the handset is weighing in at 5.64oz (160g), which is 22 grams more than the 128g Onyx version.

Though, it is worth mentioning the manufacturing procedure that the Ceramic version undergoes, as it is finer and more detailed than the Onyx.

Quoting the company itself:

“Crafted in a process totaling 25 days, each individual OnePlus X backplate undergoes three meticulous methods of polishing before it is flawless enough for use.”

The Shenzhen-based phone maker has also stated that only 10,000 units of the Ceramic OnePlus X will be produced.

The OnePlus X is classified as a mid-range device though the spec sheet says otherwise.

OnePlus provided the X with a stellar full HD (1920 x 1080) AMOLED 5.5-inch display delivering a 441 ppi pixel density, covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for ultimate scratch protection.

Underneath the hood, the device packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 chipset powered by a quad-core CPU clocked at 2.3GHz, coupled with an Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Internal storage capacity is 16GB, expandable via microSD up to 128GB.

Moreover, the Snapdragon 801 powers the company’s former flagship, the One, as well as LG’s G3 and Motorola’s Moto X.

Camera wise, the devices comes with a 13-megapixel primary shooter located on the back, featuring 4128 x 3096 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, HDR and full HD video @30FPS. In addition, an 8-megapixel sensor is placed on the front.

In terms of connectivity, the One Plus X is fitted with LTE antennas, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB v2.0 and FM Radio. When it comes to the latter, we presume that neither 3G or WiFi need to consult in order to operate.

Furthermore, OnePlus included a 2525 mAh non-removable battery, which is a bit questionable in terms of life longevity, as the phone does sport a power-consuming full HD 5.5-inch display.

The OnePlus X comes with Google’s Android 5.1.1 Lollipop straight out of the box, with a layer of OxygenOS UI placed upon it. The particular user interface features a selection of themes, on-screen gestures and an ambient display.

In case you are not familiar, the Ambient display projects the time and missed notifications in plain white text, without the user having to wake up or unlock the handset.

There is no official word regarding the device’s eligibility to the Android Marshmallow 6.0 update.
