KickassTorrents (KAT) still down, Here are safe alternatives you can try

KickassTorrents (KAT) is still down and will never be up again following the seizure of all web properties by the United States government agencies. However, several KAT clones and mirrors have emerged on the web dubbed to be an alternative to KickassTorrents. The clone websites have surfaced after the all the web installations of KickassTorrents were brought down by officials.

Despite warnings, people have been downloading torrents from the clone-based top torrent sites. However, users are strongly advised to only download torrents from other safe alternatives.

KickassTorrents Alternatives

According to industry analysts, the possibility of the survival of clone and mirror based sites of KickassTorrents are very slim since law enforcement agencies will pull them out. There are reports that many users of KAT are migrating to The Pirate Bay (TPB), Extra Torrent, RARBG and Torrent Downloads.

KickassTorrents mirrors are dangerous

Despite repeated warnings, users are making use of the KAT mirrors, which will not only harm their systems with malwares but also render their PCs unusable. The possibility of malware infection spreading to system BIOS is high.

Even though some of the proxies and clones of KAT are reportedly considered dubious, several of them are indeed genuine. However, it is difficult to find the proxy, which is safe for torrent downloading. Hence, security experts are of the opinion that it is better to play safe.

KickassTorrents.website taken down

Within hours of KickassTorrents closure, the team at IsoHunt managed to develop a perfect mirror with the domain name – KickassTorrents.website. However, the site was taken down within a week after its launch. This development infers that officials are monitoring the activities of the general public even though KAT was closed.

Rescue Possibility

In the past, IsoHunt rescued several torrent sites such as The Pirate Bay in 2014 that have been closed down by copyright agencies. As of writing this, they have been sending requests to the whole torrent community and regular users to join hands to save the arrested KickassTorrents creator Artem Vaulin.

Save KickassTorrents via Petition

A group of people belonging to the torrent community has been petitioning through Change.org and The White House official portal to save Vaulin. Currently, there are over 47,092 signatures on the Change.org petition with another 2908 signatures will result in 50,000 sign ups. If you are signing the petition, then you are warned that you are showing support to a person who has been jailed for criminal conspiracy.

We navigated to change.org and searched with the keyword “kickasstorrents”. We are unable to locate the petition. This means the petition has been taken down after it was initially reported as above by a leading tech portal.

Total loss due to KickassTorrents

According to estimates, the US entertainment industry has incurred a loss of $1 billion due to the actions of KickAssTorrents founder Vaulin. However, the chances of getting him out on bail are very less since he faces criminal charges of copyright infringement and money laundering.

Future

We don’t have any information about when the KAT will come back. Earlier, MegaUpload founder was arrested in a similar way but now he is the founder of Mega cloud storage service based in New Zealand. If Vaulin has to survive, he has to seek asylum in another country.
