Google Nexus smartphone release likely by Verizon without Google branding

Google is expected to introduce two new Nexus smartphone by the end of October. According to Evan Blass aka @evleaks, Verizon wireless will release the handsets without the Nexus tag.

Blass, who is well known for leaking gadget related information before the official launch took to Twitter and posted the possibility of Verizon carrying two Nexus smartphone. He also asked readers to pay special attention to the quotation marks. This gives the fact that Google will most likely drop the Nexus brand name.

According to reports, Google is gearing up to release two new Nexus smartphone by the end of October. The 5-inch variant will be called as “Sailfish“, while the 5.5-inch model will carry the tag “Marlin“. There is a possibility for a release of a 5.2-inch model.

If rumors are to be believed, the new two Nexus smartphone will be manufactured by HTC after a long gap of six years. However, it is not the first time Verizon is branding a flagship smartphone. The Moto Droid smartphone was released under the tag name of the carrier.

Blass also added that the upcoming Nexus devices will not offer a pure Android stock experience. The devices will be shipped with Verizon’s own apps out of the box. There are reports that the new handsets will be loaded with a user interface developed by Verizon. Be prepared to accept numerous bloatware.

Like all the previous Nexus devices, the new Nexus units will also feature a fingerprint scanner on the rear. Moreover, you will be able to easily check notifications with the new swipe gesture.

While the larger Nexus model with the tag “Marlin” will be designed with metal, the smaller variant named “Sailfish” will be manufactured using plastic.

Google Nexus Specifications

Talking about the internals, the Nexus smartphone will feature a 5.5-inch QHD curved display with premium smooth finish display, Snapdragon 820/821 processor, 4GB RAM, up to 128GB storage (default: 32GB), 12MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing snapper, USB Type-C port, bottom facing speakers, fingerprint scanner in addition to all other connectivity options.

Google Nexus smartphones with Android 7.0 Nougat

It’s almost certain that Android 7.0 Nougat will be released in August. Hence, you can expect both Nexus devices to ship with the new platform. Earlier, there were rumors on the web about the possibility of Nexus device getting the first batch of Android Nougat.

The forthcoming Nexus devices will also feature a new flowered animated button. If you press the home button, you will view a small animation with several other icons. There are reports that Google Assistant will be integrated with the home button. The availability of this new feature will be initially exclusive to Nexus.
