How to download and install iOS 10 public beta on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

At the recently concluded WWDC 2016 conference, Apple released iOS 10 for developers with a wide range of new features for Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV and Apple Watch. Although the beta software will consist of bugs, you can test drive it if you have access to any of the devices such as iPhone, iPad or iPod touch including Mac.

At WWDC 2016, Apple had, in fact, announced that a public beta of iOS 10 would be available in July. Apple had fulfilled the promise by releasing the first public beta of iOS 10 to users. After gathering feedback from users and stakeholders, the company will release the final refined version of iOS 10 in September along with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro.

Touted to be the biggest release by Apple, the iOS 10 features improved messaging, a native app for Home automation, refreshed apps for Music, Maps and News including integration of Siri into QuickType and Photos. Moreover, Apple had integrated Siri into its Mac OS.

Before proceeding to upgrade your device to iOS 10, you need to make sure that you are using an eligible compatible device. As of writing this, the iOS 10 public beta can be installed on these devices – iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad 4th generation, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPod touch 6th generation, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone SE, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5.

Step 1

You need to register for Apple Beta Software Program by navigating to the official software page. After registration, you should enroll your device to test either macOS Sierra (Mac users) or iOS 10 (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users). Apple has provided a detailed guide which helps you to capture an archived backup of your device before installation of iOS 10. This step is required because it will help you to restore your device back to the stable iOS 9.3.2 in case if you are not impressed with iOS 10.

Step 2

The next step is to download an iOS 10 Beta Software configuration profile from within your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch by visiting beta.apple.com/profile and tapping the “Download Profile” button. Once you are on the page, select “iPhone” when the “Choose a Device” prompt appears. Finally, tap “Install” located on the top right of the screen, which will automatically install Apple’s iOS Beta Software Profile. You will be prompted to restart the device.

Step 3

You will be able to download iOS 10 public beta via OTA by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update. You need to follow the instructions and finish the download process.

Step 4

The iOS 10 public beta will be automatically installed after the downloading via OTA is finished. This will take several minutes depending upon your Internet connectivity.

We would suggest you not to install iOS 10 public beta in a device which you use daily. You can test drive the installation if you have a spare Apple device, which is compatible with iOS 10.

Nothing is said about using IOS 10 beta on IPad Pro 9.7. Is that because the 9.7 has restart and other problems out of the box which have not been acknowledged by Apple and ther is no fix in sight?
