Microsoft’s first laptop Surface Book comes with custom NVIDIA GPU

REDMOND, WA- Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) The tech giant revealed its first laptop last week, the Surface Book, and new info suggests that it is packing a custom Nvidia graphics card (GPU).

Microsoft has gained once again our interest with its new powerful laptop, the Surface Book. The technical features are more or less known – you can also read our Surface Book vs MacBook Air 2015 comparison. And they’re all impressive. Yet, what captured our attention is the custom Nvidia Maxwell Geforce GPU.

This laptop, among many other things, is a “living” proof of how Microsoft and Nvidia can work together to make powerful visual computing capabilities available to everyone.

The Surface Book includes a Β Maxwell architecture-powered GeForce GPU with 1GB of video RAM, according to Microsoft News, which is probably as legit as it gets.

This is for the gamer who plays League of Legends; this is for the architect who is building a building right now; this is for the scientist who is thinking about a cure for cancer,” Panos told the audience. “This is for the developer who wants to compile using the GPU and CPU at the same time and not lose a minute.

In fact, Microsoft News mentions word by word:

“Maxwell is NVIDIA’s next-generation architecture for CUDA compute applications. Maxwell introduces an all-new design for the Streaming Multiprocessor (SM) that dramatically improves energy efficiency. Improvements to control logic partitioning, workload balancing, clock-gating granularity, compiler-based scheduling, number of instructions issued per clock cycle, and many other enhancements allow the Maxwell SM (also called SMM) to far exceed Kepler SMX efficiency.”

This custom GPU will be more or less equal to GeForce GTX 950M in terms of power and performance. For the hardcore fans of Microsoft who want to be the first to get their hands on the new Surface Book, you can pre-order it either from Amazon or Microsoft’s official page.
