Apple iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus specs leaked: Next-gen iPhone to sport 2K display

An image depicting a few screen packages believed to be that of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has emerged online which provides eager enthusiasts the world over with some new food for thought. That has to do with the resolution that the screen panels are believed to pack in, which is mentioned to be 1080p for the smaller 4.7-inch display. However, it is the bigger 5.5-inch screen with its 2K display rating that is proving to be the most intriguing. With no further details available, that would likely mean a 1440p LCD panel at the least. Also, while that many pixels will no doubt be pleasing to the eye, what are being seen as a cause of concern for many are the extra concessions that developers will have to make to account for the higher resolution.

Apple iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus Specs: LCD panel, 3 GB RAM

That is not all as a higher resolution display also puts a heavy toll on the battery. Coupled to a bigger 5.5-inch display, this could mean more havoc on the battery run times. As it is, iPhone has never been known for their battery life, and a quad HD display on the new iPhone 7 Plus could spell more trouble for Apple. As such, it will be really interesting to see how Apple balances the bigger and better resolution display without ruining battery run times. A bigger battery can be a solution though that again can add a few more millimeters to the side profile of the device.

Apart from a bigger battery, a higher resolution display also requires a higher capacity RAM besides a more capable processor and GPU. Towards that, the new iPhone 7 is already pegged to come with a 3 GB RAM along with better and faster processor though it remains to be seen how much of an increase will there be for the battery.

For reference, the iPhone 6s Plus comes with a 2750mAh Li-Po battery which is a further downgrade over the 2,915mAh battery that the iPhone 6 Plus came with. That said, the iPhone 6s fared better thanks to better optimization methods. Further, the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus is rumored to come with a 2810mAh battery which offers a slight improvement over that of the iPhone 6s Plus.

Meanwhile, the image also revealed the source of the LCD panels which have been mentioned as JDI. That is hardly surprising considering that JDI has been the supplier of screens to Apple for quite some time now.
