Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)- The Cupertino giant has just rolled out the iOS 9.1 update which offers over 150 new emoji, bug fixes and UK edition of Apple News.
Apple has finally released iOS 9.1 for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. iOS 9.1 is expected to be the most well-developed edition of iOS 9, offering a selection of new emoji, a remarkable number of bug fixes and performance enhancement and the launch of the Apple News news aggregator for the UK.
iOS 9.1: Over 150 new emoji!
Emoji have long been part of our texting routine, replacing words and sometimes accelerating the course of a conversation. Apple appears to be well aware of the situation, since it has circulated over 150 new emoji with the iOS 9.1 update.
More specifically -kudos Forbes- the refreshed list include a hugging face, a thinking face, a face with rolling eyes, prayer beads, a turkey, a crab, a hot dog, a cricket bat, a Menorah with nine branches, a mosque, a synagogue, popcorn, a taco, a burrito, a unicorn, a cheese wedge, a unicorn head, a champagne bottle and a middle finger. Every category has at least a new emoji added, more or less.
iOS 9.1: Live Photos + Messages updated, New Wallpapers!
An update worth noting is the one on Live Photos, as from now on it will be able to figure if your handset is raised or lowered, preventing any recorded movement that would end up on the app.
Moreover, Apple included a small tweak in the Settings app which allows the user to enable or disable photos of contacts in the Messages app lists.
We are also provided with three new wallpapers featuring planets in iOS 9.1; Neptune, Jupiter and Mars.
iOS 9.1: Bug Fixes and Improved performance!
Apple has improved performance in iOS with 9.1 too, by enhancing stability for Music, Photos, Safari, Search, CarPlay as well as Multitasking’s UI.
As mentioned above, 9.1 has fixed a number of bugs including the unresponsivness of the Calendar app in the Month view, while Game Center, after intensive complaints from the majority of the users, does not crash anymore. Some people reported unnecessary zooming in the content of apps- the update has address this as well.
Other minor issues that have been resolved are the incorrect unread mail count for POP accounts, the inability to remove recent contacts from new messages or mails and the Mail app’s bug which hid some emails for no apparent reason.
Some not that noticeable bugs that have been fixed include the gray bar that remains in the body of an Audio message, the bag that caused activation errors on some carriers and finally, the bug that did not allow users to update apps from the App Store.
iOS 9.1: Apple News in the UK!
Up until iOS 9.0.2, Apple News was solely available to the US and Australia, though users from all around the globe could access it by logging in the US App Store.
With iOS 9.1, the news aggregator is officially available to the UK, offering the feeds of The Guardian, Daily Maily, The Economist and other renowned British media outles.
You can download the iOS 9.1 update by going to Settings > General > Software Update, or via iTunes on your computer. The size of the update is 300MB, so make sure you have enough storage space left.
