REDMOND, WA- Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) It seems that Apple’s iOS is not the only one to receive an Office update this month. Microsoft announced a couple of days ago the launch date of the long-anticipated Office update on Windows.
When will it be available?
Office 22 will be available on September 22, while Office customers with volume licensing agreements will be able to download the software on October 1.
Plenty of new features!
The new update includes some rather minor, but worth mentioning new features with the most notable of them all being the ability of a document to be co-edited by several users in real time from the desktop app and the sync of files to OneDrive in the cloud.
A few dark and colourful theme options have been added by Microsoft, while the Excel app now includes some new charts.
Furthermore, Microsoft is adding a couple of new tools to Office 2016, the Data Loss Prevention and Multi-factor Authentication.
What’s more interesting is that the Public Preview version of Office 2016 has been available since March, so Microsoft had enough time to receive some feedback and work on the users’ suggestions.
According to those, the company stated that it will provide a new update model called “Current Branch for Business,” which will offer three cumulative feature updates per year while continuing to offer monthly security updates.
But besides all the above, what would particularly be interesting to see, is the cross-platform approach that Microsoft is working on with its new Office software.
Let’s not forget that Office 2016 for Mac was previously released in July, which was the first time the company officially confirmed rumours about the standalone version in September.
