This is what Google’s futuristic campus looks like

Google’s plans for a futuristic campus in California seems to be finally on track, as it had a property swap agreement with LinkedIn. According to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, the two tech giants ended their longstanding feud over a lucrative unused plot, where Google paid $215 million and Linkedin paid $331 million.

The job portal company is said to acquire two of Alphabet Inc’s Mountain View properties that totals up to 460,000 square feet, besides the two buildings leased in Sunnyvale.

Google will take over a 370,000-square-foot building owned by LinkedIn in North Bayshore and LinkedIn’s valuable development property in the same district, which comes with the Mountain View City Council to allow 1.4 million square feet of new office space.

LinkedIn has now got a property closer to its Sunnyvale properties, while Google finally fulfills its dream of owning the land it can use to build its new innovative campus. Last year Google announced its intention of making new buildings, designed by the renowned Danish architect Biarke Ingels and Thomas Heatherwick.

In their original blog post, Google outlined the new campus and described the new workplace as one that can “blur the distinction between our (their) buildings and nature.” This utopian concept uses trees, cafes, and bike tracks to create a natural environment.

The project had been on hold since the company did not have undisputed ownership of the plot that it wanted to build upon. However, now that the matter is resolved, they can start working on it immediately.

Comparisons with Apple’s “spaceship campus” (yet to be inaugurated) and Facebook’s new warehouse in Menlo Park (already functional) have already started. This off the field competition creates a healthy work environment for the employees.
