CUPERTINO, CA- Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) The US-based tech giant has just refreshed its iMac computer line-up, improving screen resolution, performance and much more.

Few hours ago the Cupertino giant revealed the new versions of its iMac desktop line-up, as well as the updates of several accessories, including the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2. The new iMac 2015 appears to be the real magic of today’s product releases, offering a slew of new features, as well as more internal power, acompanied by two new Thunderbolt 2 ports and more affordable Fusion Drive storage upgrade options.

So what has changed over the 2014 installment?

21.5″ iMac 2015 Vs 21.5″ iMac 2014

Let’s kick things off with the smaller edition of the line-up, which is the 21.5-inch one.

• Display

The 2015 iMac finally offers a Retina-enabled screen in the 21.5-inch version with a 4K (4,096×2,304 display) resolution, while offering a much wider color gamut and accuracy. Last year’s iMac featured a solid 21.5-inch screen with a full HD 1080p resolution.

• Power

A major overhaul has been implemented underneath the hood as well, since the new iMac packs a 3.10GHz Intel Core i5-5675R chip with Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, 1536MB (shared) Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 graphics card and 8GB DDR3 SDRAM 1866MHz memory.

The 2014-one came with a 1.4GHz Intel Core i5 4260U chip with Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz, a poor 1792MB (shared) Intel HD Graphics 5000 graphics card and 8GB DDR3 SDRAM 1866MHz of memory.

• Storage

The new 4K iMac features 1TB of storage while the 2014 iMac starts from 500 gigs. Both are based on a 5,400rpm HDD.

• Price

Things get a bit more tricky here as the 4K iMac is priced at US$1,499 while last year’s iMac base-line model starts at merely US$1,100.

Now it is time to bring the 27-inch bad boys head to head.

• Display

Both 2015 and 2014 iMacs run on a 5K (5120×2880) resolution panel, though, as aforementioned, the new P3 display in the new iMac enhances the color reproduction accuracy and the adds up to the color range.

• Power

The 27-inch 2015 iMac is one of the most notable desktop powerhouses out there to look for, as its base-line model rocks a 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, AMD Radeon R9 M380 with 2GB video memory and 8GB (two 4GB) of RAM, configurable up to 32GB.

The mid-line model is fitted with 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, AMD Radeon R9 M390 with 2GB video memory, 8GB (two 4GB) memory, configurable up to 32GB.

The high-end one packs 3.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz, AMD Radeon R9 M395 with 2GB video memory, 8GB (two 4GB) memory, configurable up to 32GB.

Last year’s model was equipped with a 3.5GHz Intel Core i5 chip (Turbo Boost up to 3,9 GHz), an AMD Radeon R9 M290X (GDDR5 2 GB) graphics card and 8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 memory; four SO-DIMM slots configurable up to 16 and 32GB.

• Storage

The 2014 line comes with 1TB of internal storage. The 2015 one offers the same storage with the base and mid-line model, while the high-end one comes with 2TB Fusion Drive.

• Price

The 2014 27-inch 5K iMac retailed for US$2,499, but now the price should be as low as US$1,700. The new ones start from US$1,799 up to US$2,299 for the premium one.
