Android 7.0 Nougat release date: Coming ahead of September 30

Google is expected to release the much-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat before the end of September with graphics centric features. According to the latest reports, the new operating system will be integrated with power efficient Vulkan 3D graphics. The Android N will be released before September 30.

There is no confirmation about the exact date on which the Android N will be released. However, there has been a widespread discussion among the developer community for the past few months about the new Android platform, which will be the successor to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Android 7.0 Nougat Features

The upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat will be integrated with the new Vulkan 3D graphics API to enable developers to perform additional graphics related work without sacrificing the smartphone’s power consumption. Moreover, the JIT compiler will enhance the performance of apps by 75 percent. This is achieved by reducing the compiler code size by around 50 percent.

The Android 7.0 Nougat is expected to feature a file-based encryption, media framework hardening in addition to invisible system updates. This means all the future versions of Android N will be automatically downloaded in the background without affecting the activities performed by the user.

For instance, you will be playing games while an Android update will be downloaded. You will not know whether the Android release in your device is actually getting downloaded. However, Google hasn’t responded to our query as to what will happen if the internal storage of the device is low. The downloaded updates will be installed upon next reboot or after the phone is restarted.

Nougat is also expected to feature multi-window Split Screen and Picture in Picture, Daydream VR including an enhanced Java and regional language support. Since Virtual Reality will be the future of smartphone technology, Google developers are working under the hood to integrate VR-centric features for the upcoming generation.

Smartphones getting Android 7.0 Nougat

There are reports that the upcoming Google Nexus device will be bundled with Android 7.0 Nougat. Moreover, manufacturers in partnership with Google will also release iterations of Android N for the respective devices. There are reports that Google will release their own exclusive smartphone, which will be loaded with Android N.

As of writing this, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is only available in select few devices. Many manufactures like Samsung, HTC, Xiaomi, LeEco are in the process of releasing Android M updates for their devices. Going by this trend, it is highly unlikely to find a device with Android 7.0 Nougat until March 2017.

In a surprise development, Google had revealed the first Android N developer preview in the first week of March. Around that time, there were rumors about the availability of a final preview in May. In the meantime, Google launched an online voting process to find a suitable name for the “N”. The name has now been revealed and you can expect the official final release of Android N any time before September 30.
