AUSTRALIA- Samsung ELECT LTD (NASDAQ: SSNLF) The South Korean based tech giant makes its Gear S2 smartwatch available in the Australia.

Right when you were convinced that choosing a smartwatch could not get much more difficult – due to the plethora of options – a new player has entered the game. With the Samsung Gear S2, Aussies will finally get an alternative to Apple’s Apple Watch and get the competition going.

Samsung’s fourth attempt – fifth if you count the Gear fit – will hit the Australian stores on Wednesday favouring the country’s major metropolitan cities, Sydney and Melbourne. Bris Vegas stays out of the game for now but for no obvious reason whatsoever.

If you haven’t met the Gear S2 yet, it is more reminiscent of a standard watch than its similar predecessors. It has the looks of a classic 40mm round watch, with a black gloss finish, a ceramic bezel and a replaceable leather strap. There are eight watch bands each one sold separately.

Moreover, the Gear S2 comes pre-loaded with 15 watch faces and sports a 302ppi resolution screen with a 1GHz dual-core processor, while it runs with the Tizen OS. It also embodies 512 of RAM and 4GB or internal memory.

As in all other areas that it has been released, the Samsung Gear S2 will be available in two models, one being the Gear S2 and the other the Gear S2 Classic. None of the two models will take up much of your wrist, as it is just 11.4mm thin and with a 1.2-inch circular screen.

So come Wednesday, smartwatch buffs will be able to find the Samsung Gear S2 for 499AUD – the normal version – and 599AUD – the Classic version. Available colours will be dark gray with a matching gray band or silver with a white band. The Classic version also comes in black with a leather band – hence the moniker “Classic”.

The watches are can be purchased online or via Samsung’s Experience stores in Sydney and Melbourne. They will become more widely available in November, going on sale in other retailers as well.
