Samsung Galaxy S7 rumors: Specs and Release Date

Samsung seems to be on a flagship smartphones producing spree, having announced the new Samsung Galaxy S7 that is expected to make an appearance in early 2016.

The Galaxy S7 goes by the codename “Project Lucky” to refer to the hopefully fortuitous seventh generation of Samsung’s Galaxy phone line and it has already been inspiration to many fans and tech addicts who are trafficking rumours all around the internet. And of course from here rumours can only intensify as the release date comes closer.

So in order to be able to follow the latest news, let’s make a rumour roundup about Samsung’s new probable flagship smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S7: Design & Display

This is a rumour we’ve mentioned before and it seems to be getting more and more real. The Galaxy S7 is said to feature a magnesium alloy unibody design, instead of the glass body seen on the S6. This would make the S7 a lot more resistant than its predecessors.

Moreover, according to some rumours coming straight from the Korean outlet Kbench, Samsung may leave aside the Corning’s Gorilla Glass that it’s been using so far and go with its own display saving tech, known as Turtle Glass.

Another Korean site, VIP.MK prepares us to see a 5.7inch display on the S7, which is a big step forwards taken from the S6’s 5.1inch screen. Other speculations include Samsung taking it up against Sony and its Xperia Z5 Premium, by also upgrading the resolution from 2K to 4K. Neither a fact, nor a veto.

Specs and Technical Features

SamMobile has leaked an extremely interesting rumour, claiming that we could see the Galaxy S7 running with either a new Exynos 8890 chip or a Snapdragon 820 processor and a 20-megapixel rear camera. However there are no other clues to indicate which processor we will ultimately see. And any attempts to guess would be 99% based on luck so it’s not quite advised. Surprisingly enough, the speed of the device is reported to be 3.5 GHz which is pretty close and in many cases more than a decent desktop computer. Perhaps Samsung is after all trying to bring the power of computer to our palm. A

However, we have to mention that Qualcomm has announced that its next generation processor should be available in early 2016 so the timing probably matches. On the other hand, Exynos makes an increasingly frequent appearance on Samsung’s latest models so one could even say it’s a tie.

As for the 20MP main shooter, it is exciting but does not strike as a surprise. Come to think about it, Samsung ought to make some noticeable improvements if it doesn’t want the S7 to fail due to the bad timing.

Other than that, we expect to see the same RAM of 4GB just like the S6 Edge Plus and the Note 5, while SamMobile supports that Samsung could possibly herald the return of microSD storage to the Galaxy series. Not necessarily a bad move as some extra storage capacity is always welcomed and with such RAM and processing power the user would not even notice any difference.

Rumours will definitely keep building up but ultimately we’ll just have to wait until this February to see what’s true and what’s not. Besides, Samsung has a record for making major announcements at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, which takes places from February 22 to 25, 2016.
