Microsoft Windows 10 Anniversary update for mobile begins August 9

The mobile division of Microsoft has declared on Twitter that the Anniversary update for smartphones running Windows 10 Mobile operating system will be out on August 9. The information has been given out by the Twitter handle of Lumia India.

The massive Anniversary Update has already started to reach more than 350 million devices running Windows 10 around the world. While the major update has also been made available for Microsoft HoloLens, there was no specific information about the timeline for Windows 10 Mobile devices.

We recommend our readers to take this information with a pinch of salt as there has been multiple instances of support teams giving out wrong information through the social media. Microsoft is known to provide very late updates to Windows Mobile operating systems in the history. If this info turns out to be true, then it will be one of the first time Microsoft release a substantial update simultaneously in all of its platforms.

The Anniversary Update for the Windows 10 Mobile brings improvements identical to its PC counterpart just in a mobile format. The upcoming Windows Camera app will be getting the much awaited ability to capture panorama images. The update brings a revamped lock screen for the devices without hardware buttons. In those smartphones, a brand new camera button replaces the on screen back button in the lock screen to snap images swiftly.

Microsoft has also developed a brand new Skype app for its mobile operating system. This is essentially the exact Skype application which is available for the users of the desktop version of the Windows 10. This brings all the goodies of the modern Skype app in to your Windows 10 Mobile. This will relieve a lot of Windows Phone users who are bearing an ill-equipped Skype app in their smartphone for a very long time.

The settings panel has also been modified with redesigned icons to facilitate easier navigation. The upcoming update adds a brand new feature to the action centre in which you can set your desired priority for specific notifications, so that the important ones always appear to you at first. The Anniversary update adds native support for finger print scanners. With the forthcoming update, you can control the media playback right from the lock screen itself.
