Microsoft has rolled-out a new update of Skype for iPhone and iPad app on Thursday. The new update was focused on overhauling the user interface, improving the performance, and adding some cool new features. As the release date of new iPhone with final version of iOS 9 nears, Microsoft has made sure in advance that its major apps for iOS will be all compatible and ready for the new OS and the new iPhone.

Skype is probably the sole major social media platform whose desktop and mobile app have a huge quality gap in between, where in this case, the latter is really bad. Skype’s mobile app for both Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android and Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iOS has always been very frustrating to use and navigate around.

Though the recent update fixes the severe issue of switching to text while on a call session, which beforehand was causing a lot of lagging and usually resulted to the app crashing. Moreover, the particular adjustment eases file sharing whilst being on a call.

In addition to the above, the Cupertino giant has delivered a new Recent tab and touch up the Search thus being bringing more efficient discussions and contacts results back to the user.

New gestures include swiping right or left on a contact to call or swipe on a messaging session to delete or respond to it. The update offers enhanced location sharing, interactive notifications and options for initiating groups and chats. It is worth to mention that users can now import contacts to the app from their iOS device address book, something that will definitely come in handy for the vast majority of iPhone and iPad owners.

If you have not installed Skype on your iOS device yet and the above improvements have made you want to do so, you can download it for free from the App Store. The iPhone and iPad apps are separate, while both are compatible solely with devices that run on iOS 7 and higher, so make sure your device is up to date as well by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
