Microsoft Corporation has rolled out the Cortana digital assistant beta app for Apple’s iOS operating system.
We’ve been expecting that for six months since the news were spread to the world of technology for the first time. Microsoft has silently been developing its beta program that will allow Cortana, the virtual assistant known for its high sense of humour, run on iOS devices as well.
Now the time has come, and the company has begun sign-ups for the program that will let users receive an early beta version to put on test.
The company explains:
“We want help from our Windows Insiders to make sure she’s a great personal assistant on iOS too. In the spirit of the Windows Insider Program, we’re looking for a limited number of people to get their hands on an early version of the app. It’s important to keep in mind that this is the first public release of the Cortana for iOS beta. And that for now, Cortana for iOS is only available in the U.S. and China. Over the coming months, we’ll continue to deliver frequent updates to the app to expand the features and functionality.”
Initially, the beta version of the new software will be available only for China and U.S and we have to note that not all of Cortana’s features will remain the same on iOS. For instance, the “hey Cortana” feature is not available for iOS devices. Other than that, Microsoft’s virtual assistant famous character from the Halo series – whichever works best for you – will look on iOS just like the Windows 10 and Android equivalents. However, keep in mind that in case the iOS beta is more like the Android version, you also won’t be able to open apps from Cortana, or toggle settings as you can on Windows PCs as well.
According to Microsoft, invites and download links will be sent to on-board testers via email in the coming weeks. If you’re not one of those testers, then stay tuned, as we will keep you posted regarding the iOS beta version of Cortana.
